Christmas Stroll in Village of Salado

The Village of Salado, Texas, located on IH-35 between Austin and Waco, bills itself as the “Best Art Town in Texas.” While other communities may not agree with that assertion, Salado is certainly home to numerous galleries and art events.

One to enjoy this weekend and next is the Salado Christmas Stroll, a town-wide festival that occurs the first two weekends of December and makes visitors feel like they’re in Victorian England at Christmastime.

The event kicked off with a Christmas Parade on Thursday and features a variety of musical entertainment and theatrical productions. Area merchants and gallery owners are open late for business, and groups of carolers stroll the streets.  Outdoor fireplaces and hot chocolate keep families warm, and Santa Claus is on hand to visit with the kids.

You can blow your very own ornament in a workshop led by glass blower Stephen Bishop or take in the 17th annual production of Tablerock Amphitheater’s A Christmas Carol. Another theatrical offering is Salado Silver Spur Theater’s production of Do You See What I See?, and Children’s book author, Lynn Sheffield Simmons, will be signing books at Strawberry Patch.

The Christmas Stroll runs on weekends from Dec. 4 – 6 and Dec. 11 – 13. Complete information is available on the Salado website.
